Dublin City Centre & Docklands

Best for: Young professionals, tech workers, those without cars. The Docklands (D1/D2) is home to Google, Meta, and dozens of multinationals. Modern apartments, excellent LUAS and bus links, walkable to most things. Expensive — expect €2,200+ for a one-bed. The vibe is urban and international.

Ranelagh, Rathmines & Rathgar (D6)

Best for: Families, couples, and those who want village feel close to the city. Tree-lined streets, excellent cafés, top schools nearby. Strong community feel. Good bus routes into town. Slightly cheaper than the city centre but still premium — and one of Dublin's most sought-after areas.

Sandyford, Leopardstown & Stillorgan (South Dublin)

Best for: Tech workers (LinkedIn, Salesforce nearby), families wanting suburban space. The LUAS Green Line runs directly to the city centre. Good schools, quiet residential feel, larger apartments and houses. Particularly popular with Indian and international communities.

Clontarf, Fairview & Drumcondra (North Dublin)

Best for: Families, those wanting a seaside feel without paying D4 prices. Clontarf is one of Dublin's most desirable areas — the sea on one side, good schools, lovely period houses. Fairview and Drumcondra are more affordable with good bus links to the city centre.

Lucan, Clondalkin & West Dublin

Best for: Families on a budget, those with cars. Much more affordable than south Dublin or city areas. Strong community feel, larger houses for the price. The commute into the city can be 30–50 minutes depending on traffic and transport options.

Howth, Malahide & the North Coast

The DART train connects these beautiful coastal villages to the city centre in 20–35 minutes. Stunning scenery, excellent quality of life, and a genuine sense of place. Malahide is particularly popular with families and professionals relocating from abroad. A little pricier but excellent value given the lifestyle.
